First Aid
Training

The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with the tools and actions required to feel comfortable handling an emergency until proper support services arrive.

CPR-AED
Training

This program covers adult, child, and infant CPR as well as AED use and provides a certificate upon completion.

WHMIS

 

This program covers workplace requirements for hazardous information systems and provides a certificate upon successful completion.

NALOXONE

 

This program teaches the basics of recognizing signs of an opiate overdose, how opiates affect the body, and the 5-part process of using NALOXONE (Narcan) to temporarily reverse its effects.

Food Handlers Certification

This course teaches participants about kitchen safety, proper food handling, and the prevention of microbial growth – as well as other factors – that contribute to food-borne illnesses. This course is required by the Ontario Food Premises Regulation (s.32) for all food service workers and is required by most food establishments. Participants will be taught all relevant skills to be safe operators in the food industry.  

We’ll cover the following modules in this course:  

  • Food safety legal information.
  • Foodborne illness.
  • Food contamination (sources/prevention).
  • Food safety management systems (HACCP).
  • Time and temperature controls.
  • Displaying, serving, dispensing & discarding.
  • Personal hygiene.
  • Microbial growth.

A physical course manual will be provided during in-person classes, or emailed to be printed for online classes. The manual will have information and activities to help students learn the material.

Course Length: 6 Hours.

Certificate: Food Handlers Certification valid for 2 years.

Mental Health Mindfulness

Mental Health First Aid is a program that was first developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. This program is designed to teach participants how to:  

  • Safely engage a person at risk of being a danger to themselves or others.  
  • Aid in the prevention of mental health deterioration. 
  • Promote an environment that supports the recovery of good mental health. 
  • Provide comfort and assistance to those in poor mental health or crisis.

This course teaches participants how to provide support to a person who might be experiencing deteriorating mental well-being or possibly even facing a crisis. Participants will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of such a deterioration/or crisis and will support this person to:     

  • Speak out and speak up about their mental well-being.  
  • Discover and access supports that can help with improving mental health and recovery.  
  • Be supportive during a mental health/or substance abuse crisis.  
  • Become more personally aware and use these skills for personal mental health defence.

You should consider the following before booking this training: 

  • The program spans over 2 days to account for stressful material. It is possible, but not recommended, to accommodate 1 day of extended in-person training.  
  • If meeting virtually, participants must have access to a computer/tablet/phone, a webcam, and a reliable internet connection.  
  • This is an accommodating and safe practice space.  
  • Difficult topics may induce stress. These issues will be handled with the utmost sensitivity and professionalism.  
  • If meeting in person, the location can be provided by the client or, at a cost, by JobReadyCPR.

The Babysitters Course

This course teaches potential babysitters (ages 11-18) how to care for children of various ages. It includes information on accident prevention, safe environments, fire prevention, and water safety along with first aid specific to childcare scenarios. Students will be given a written test requiring a passing score of 75%.  

The course will be scheduled over a 2-week period. The sessions typically last 75 minutes and each participant must attend all 4 sessions. The sessions will include lively discussions, video lessons, gameplay, and hands-on learning.  

Courses can be taken in-person or via Zoom and a course manual will be available to students for printout a week prior to class.  

Students under the age of 18 will have to submit a completed intake form with parental permission and a liability waiver acknowledgement.  

The following modules will be taught:

  • Calling 911. 
  • Choking.
  • Burns.
  • Anaphylaxis. 
  • Broken bones. 
  • Bumps/scrapes. 
  • Splinters.
  • Recovery position. 
  • Bites and stings.
  • Asthma.
  • Nosebleeds.
  • Fire safety.
  • Water safety.
  • Bath time.
  • Diaper changes. 
  • CPR theory.

*CPR certification not included

The Home Alone Course  

This course teaches young people (ages 9-12) how to be safe when home alone for short periods of time, including the creation of a safety routine, house key responsibilities, answering the phone and the door, how to handle basic emergencies, and internet safety. Students will be given a written test that requires a passing score of 75%.  

The course will be scheduled over a 2-week period. The sessions typically last 75 minutes and each participant must attend all 4 sessions. The sessions will include lively discussions, video lessons, gameplay, and hands-on learning. Courses can be taken in-person or via Zoom and a course manual will be available to students for printout a week prior to class.  

Students under the age of 18 will have to submit a completed intake form with parental permission and liability waiver acknowledgement.  

The following modules will be taught:

  • Getting help. 
  • Problem-solving. 
  • Online safety. 
  • Answering the phone and door safely. 
  • Fire safety.

New Parents Emergency Training

This course teaches new parents basic skills that will instill confidence and help keep their families safe. We cover topics such as infant first aid and CPR, when to go to the emergency room, common health problems, and resources for when you need a second opinion. This course is structured with plenty of time for questions to ease individual concerns. Parents will have access to a printable guidebook to help them during the course.  

Please note: Circumstances may be hectic – especially for new families. Certification requires attendance at 75% of the course and/or a test score of 75% at the discretion of the instructor.  

The following modules will be taught:  

  • What is “normal”? 
  • Common problems.
  • Basic first aid.
  • Infant CPR theory.
  • Infant choking. 
  • Anaphylaxis.
  • Asthma.
  • Fever.
  • Croup.

Wilderness First Aid Excursion  

Wilderness First Aid takes our students into the wild for a 4-day and 3-night learning experience.  

What makes this course entirely unique are the Métis cultural components included in this, quite possibly making it the first Métis Wilderness First Aid Excursion.  

This program is in early development and is expected to be ready for launch in Summer 2022. Course maximum with 2 instructors will be 15 students.  

The following modules will be taught: 

  • Scene management.  
  • Injury prevention.
  • Standard First Aid modules. 
  • CPR B.
  • Severe bleeding. 
  • Improvised bandaging. 
  • Bone breaks & slings. 
  • Anaphylaxis.
